“The plain fact is that the planet does not need more successful people. But it does desperately need more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers, and lovers of every kind. It needs people who live well in their places. It needs people of moral courage willing to join the fight to make the world habitable and humane. And these qualities have little to do with success as we have defined it.”

— David W. Orr, Ecological Literacy: Educating Our Children for a Sustainable World

03 CULTURE CRATE

Culture Crate is a cultural education solution combatting the cultural heritage loss we are seeing in our world today. I take on the supplemental booklet in each of the crates that provide context and education on the history of the culture or tradition, specialized interactive activities, and intructions on how to engage with this piece of culture. This is the first released Culture Crate teaching us about Nabulsi saboon (soap) and how we can preserve this culture in our own classrooms and homes! Keep an eye out for the next release where we visit Egypt’s Aragoz (puppetry) tradition and learn how to write our own play!

04 LIBERATION VENTURES CONCEPT

A brand identity concept for Liberation Ventures, an institution advancing movements for reparations for Black Americans. Using rigorous design research into reparations, I was able to brainstorm and assemble a visual device that approaches the subject matter in a sensitive way: “We build capacity and connective tissue that nourishes the reparations movement to achieve a new paradigm of collective impact.”

05 POLICYLINK

The goal of the PolicyLink Racial Equity Narrative Playbook is to give legislators the knowledge and concrete guidance they need to confidently speak about racial equity and to make the case for legislative action that furthers equity goals. The client expressed that they want policymakers who believe that racial equity matters to advance the right narratives that can shape popular understanding and, ultimately, build support for policies that can provide better outcomes for all. Using elegant but accessible layouts, I wanted to approach this text-heavy manual like a workbook: clear and easy navigation.

06 IF CARDS

A set of playing cards that uses the power of imagination to prompt conversations around important social and political issues. What if we used our imagination more when having conversations about social issues that impact all of us? I was challenged to find a way to combine seriousness and play. I wanted to design bite-sized ‘what if…?’ statements to spark friendly conversation about important political issues in a way that incites using the imagination to think about what the future might look like based on the political decisions we make.

07 JELLO MAG

A very wiggly broadsheet publication about all things jello! With 6 weeks to create a Broadsheet magazine, I was instructed to find a subject to work with that I can use to demonstrate fluency with typesetting, image relationships, and complex layered elements. After doing some research, I came across many articles, recipes, and even fashion inspired by Jell-O! While learning a lot about the history of the gelatin dessert, I was challenged to utilize a much larger canvas, as well as finding a way to bring through the movement and enjoyment that comes with Jello.
